I’ve just paid off my credit card *___* (Which has been pretty much maxed out since I came back from Australia mid last year). Sasdf;sdfh what a happy feeling.
I’m SO EXCITED about classes starting tomorrow. All the papers I’ve been looking forward to, and wanted to take since first year have finally all come together. Usually they’ve been Arts courses and have clashed with law courses which were either compulsory or recommended. :D
For this semester, I’m taking 3 courses; Japanese history, European 1900-1945 history, and Philosophical Ethics. For semester two I’m taking another 3 courses; history - World War II, political science - local body government, and law - international trade. I still cannot believe that that is a full time work load o____o Last year I took 11 courses over the year and 10 courses the year before that. SIX! 6! I had wanted to take 7 courses this year (another history course in semester 1) but, points wise, that would have required Dean permission. Rather then messing around with that, I took that Gandhi paper over summer school. I wish I hadn’t now, 6 COURSES! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH ALL MYSELF. I think I’ll actually have free time again :D And only 1 law course, my readings are going to be halved!
The best part, my Japanese paper doesn’t have a final exam! It’s 2 essays and an in-class final test (only 1 hour in length, only worth 20% and is multi-choice and definitions! O^O). SQUEEEEEE.
I think I may take an extra commercial law paper this semester. I don’t need it for my degree, but I’m lacking commercial papers, I have lots of time (it seems) and well.. it would make sense. But there goes my Wednesdays off… I still have Mondays though… and only 13 hours of lecture time over the other 4 days…
Today is officially the first day of lectures for the 2009 University year! I don’t know how I managed it but my timetable this year is … very open. I don’t have any classes on a Monday or a Wednesday!
Enrollment week and the freebies were amazing this year. I headed in on last Thursday to get my new student ID with a couple of the girls. The queue was only about 30 minutes so that was pretty sweet. Got my free wall planner, diary, various discount cards, pens, a frisbee … and so much more! The freebie we got in our student pack was a box of pens! (Or so we thought) Turns out it was a couple of pens, a highlighter and … … … a razor. o__O Weird, muchly.
I didn’t sign up to any new banks this year xD but seen as though I’m with every main bank we have minus one… I really should get around closing some of those accounts! When you get free MP3 players, $40 free cash etc for opening a tertiary account you can’t really blame me for having so many!
Orientation week started that night, Thursday, too, with a Toga party. Didn’t go this year. Last year we felt SO OLD with all the little first years buzzing around, ugh. The acts this year don’t look particularly crash hot either, except for this Friday night. Concord Dawn, P-Money, Tiki… should go off. Thursday is Liam Finn and the Mint Chicks, actually. Wouldn’t mind seeing them again either @__@
Kim, Holly, Alana and I went to the Maize Maze yesterday! It was a heap of fun… but for me a bit of a disappointment too. I think I built it up in my head too much, I was looking forward to it and was so excited about it. Then after about a minute of being in the maze realised it’s just a corn field and we’re choosing to get lost in there. XD You get given a card with questions on it and you have to find all 10, collect the codes and the right answers so it’s not just a stroll through a maze. Although, it turns out we have a great sense of direction. We found our way to the exit 3 times whilst looking for the codes xD After an hour and a half we hadn’t found numbers 7 and 8 so gave up and played on the giant connect four game out the front. I wanted to play with the giant pick-up-sticks too, but no one would play with me! XD There was a lame mini-golf course there too, which was free because half the course wasn’t operating. =D
Gah, I need to go and get showered. How is it nearly lunchtime already! And how is it nearly March, I didn’t give authorisation for that to happen so quickly!! x_____x The next holidays are in April, I’m going to be back home before I know it!
Satyagraha - a philosophy developed by Gandhi in which one practices non-violent resistence and civil disobedience.
Gandhi’s recommendation for WWII? Everyone should take part in a Satyagraha. Yes, we shall convert the wrongdoer by… doing nothing? I’m not saying violence is always the answer but how was non-violent protesting going to stop the oppression and genocide in this situation? Here we go, take over our country and the woooorld while we wear our loin cloths and suffer your anger. o___o I don’t understand.
All I’m seeing is hype surrounding a legendary figure and no real substance.
*Happy* I only need 7% out of the 50% available to pass the course n__n
Why are exams put on Saturdays? Why do mine always fall on a Saturday? Why does my Gandhi exam have to be this Saturday… which is also Valentines Day? Man I hate cramming. Major crammage is going to have to occur the next couple of days - the giant pile of work I need to get through before I can sit it isn’t getting any smaller. I should really go and pick up the test and essay so I know what I’m sat on going into it xD Too scared *-* Maybe tomorrow…
I have six bruises on my legs… this isn’t anything new, I’ve always been a bit of a klutz and bruise very easily. I just wish I could remember when they came from xDD I know one on my shin is from jumping over (read: into) the stack of sheets piled up on the floor at work on Saturday. One on my thigh came from Paul. Apparently that whole ‘dead leg’ thing is making a comeback.
If I don’t have to work on Sunday, we’re going to go to the Maize Maze! I can’t wait, I’ve wanted to do it every year since I moved down here xD Every time we think about going, it’s not maize … uh … season? The theme this year is ‘Lost in Space’. The maze looks fun, yeeey. This is it -here-. It’s only $10 to have a fun filled day getting yourself lost!
Kimmy’s moving in on Monday <3333 Can’t wait to have a full house again. Brother and sister-inlaws first wedding anniversary that day too. Can’t believe it’s been a year. And a year since some of the Whanau were over from England and Scotland. ;-; It’s gone far too fast, here’s hoping this year starts to slow down.
Summer school ends a week from today with a neato killer exam. I can hardly wait! :D There’s nothing quite like one whole paper on Gandhi. Please shoot me now. Thankfully there’s a week (although it is Enrollment week) before lectures and Orientation week beings. I just need to pop in one day during Enrollment to pick up a new ID card… AND GO CRAZY WITH ALL THE FREEBIES AND DEALS people will be giving out. X3 I didn’t have to buy any new pens last year with all the free ones I got haha. LOVE IT.
I’ve got a few extra days of work this week too. Managed to get Saturday off so I can actually sit the exam. I’m thinking about quitting, I’m so over the study/work malarchy. I don’t know if I’ll be able to cope this year with it xDD But actually having some spending money is nice *_* It’s nice being self-dependent, having to budget and not having to rely on handouts from the parentals. Although, like mum says, you only get one shot at your degree(s) and have a lifetime to work. I just feel bad passing on all my bills to them and then some. ANOTHER DECISION TO MAKE.
I’m sick of this year being all about big changes, big decisions and pretty much just life suckage. I had hoped - new year, old problems would fade… but nope. Everything’s sticking around like a bad smell. Happy note, new flatmate is lovely. We get on so well, I was so surprised xD I mean, I kinda knew her before she moved in (well… she’d been around here once and we’d been out drinking a couple of times xD) but she was K’s friend and I didn’t think we had a great deal in common. But we doooo, it’s ridiculous! Other new flatmate (who has been one of my dearest friends since we first met early in first year! <3) hasn't moved in yet O_O someday soon she keeps saying!
And I feel like with everything that's going on, I'm barely online anymore. The few times I am, it's usually for research so I don't sign into MSN and just quickly stop by jnF and Pwnt to see if there's any changes. Makes me wonder if there's any point anymore. I'm only here now because I wasn't ready in time to leave with the girls (I just got in from work and ... it takes me a while to get ready... well mainly the washing/drying/straightening of the hair lol) and voted against meeting them in town by myself later o__o I may actually be in bed before 1am for once :O
Ohmygawd what an emo blog post for a long overdue update. I think I should go now before I get REALLY carried away! I'll have to post something happier tomorrow to bury this lameness! Someone poke to remind me :P
Finally had some good in all this mayhem today. I got a letter saying I came in the top 10% of Uni for this year which means free stuff like books next year =D Also meant an invitation to do honours in history… but that means another year of study and after the 5 years it would have taken to do the BA/LLB iono if I can be bothered XD plus a couple of other reasons…. but yeah. Something *else* to think about. Fun fun!
My blogging skillz are lacking so I don't know why you've come here! But while you are here, take a look around... maybe there'll be something to interest you. Anything remotely interesting that happens to me, I either forget to mention it or I don't think it's appropriate to post! Shocking, yes... Well maybe not.
